One of Hong Kong’s most successful restaurateurs, Paul Hsu of Elite Concepts teams up with long-term Shanghai-based, Chengdu raised collaborative partner Chef Deng Huadong of DENG G Shanghai (鄧記食園) to bring DENG G Bistro & Baijiu Bar to Hong Kong, early September. Located over two floors at 147 Queen’s Road East, DENG G will serve Chef Deng’s signature style of cuisine and cooking style in an exquisite menu of Sichuan dishes using the freshest ingredients. The venue comprises a bar on the second floor and a restaurant on the third floor, combining to accommodate 100 guests.
Hsu and Deng’s collaborative partnership dates back almost 3 decades. The gentlemen first worked together in the Shanghai Hilton International in 1988 opening Sichuan Court, the most spectacular Sichuan restaurant in China at the time. In the 90’s the duo brought traditional Sichuan cuisine to Jakarta, Indonesia, and teamed up again in 2007 for DENG G on the Bund in Shanghai.
Currently the owner of Deng G Shanghai (鄧記食園) since 2002, Chef Deng has been instrumental in popularizing Sichuan cuisine amongst international visitors. So popular is his reputation, that when Joël Robuchon opened his first L’Atelier de Joël Robuchon in Shanghai China, he visited only one Chinese restaurant – 鄧記食園 where Chef Deng personally introduced Sichuan cuisine to the maestro himself.
